Setting Epic Half-Year Resolutions

😱 Can you believe we’re already halfway through the year? 

So, July arrived, and It got me thinking about that chilly December 2022 day when I was chatting with a friend on the train back from a dancing class. She asked me if I had any New Year’s resolutions, and I remember feeling a clear sense of agitation coming up. I hadn’t thought of any resolution, but if I had to make a wish, it would have been to find the courage to leave my coaching job within organisations and dedicate myself fully to my own business. Back then, it felt like an insurmountable mountain to climb. I couldn’t even name what was keeping me stuck. It just felt too much. 

I walked out of that train, knowing I didn’t want to feel that stuck anymore.

Fast forward to today, and here I am, beyond grateful and amazed at what I’ve accomplished in these past six months, working full-time on my business. I jumped, and I did it! And it’s just the beginning.

Introducing half-year resolutions

Whether you moved big steps forwards or you forgot your resolutions along the way, and they just lost their priority, July is a great place to stop reflecting on what we achieved and where we want to go next.

I’d like to introduce you to the concept of setting half-year resolutions!

It’s like hitting the reset button on your aspirations, giving you a chance to reevaluate and reignite your determination.

1. Reflecting on the Past

What have you achieved from the beginning of the year?

It might help to have a look at your calendar or pictures in your gallery.

Take a moment to become aware and celebrate all your accomplishments, big or small, and acknowledge the lessons learned from any setbacks. I am sure you’ll discover they are way more than you would have thought before starting this exercise.

Use this reflection as fuel to project yourself forward and set new goals that align with your values and dreams.

2. Set Smart Goals

To ensure success, it’s essential to set Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART) goals.

How do you want to feel different at the end of the year?

Whether it’s improving your fitness, learning a new skill, or achieving a career milestone, be clear about your objectives.

How can you break them down into smaller, actionable steps to make them more manageable?

3. Revamp Your Routine

One of the reasons resolutions fizzle out is that they don’t integrate well into our daily lives.

Use this opportunity to revamp your routine and create habits that support your goals.

Which habits are holding you back?

How can you replace them with new ones that will serve your goals?

It could be as simple as setting aside dedicated time each day for your goal, like exercising for 30 minutes or reading for an hour.

4. Get an Accountability Buddy

Accountability is a freaking powerful tool!

Who is a friend or family member who shares similar aspirations and can embark on the journey with you?

Keep each other motivated, celebrate milestones, and offer support during challenging times. Having someone to share your progress and challenges with can make a significant difference in staying on track.

5. Embrace Flexibility and Be Gentle if Things Change

Life is unpredictable, and circumstances can change at any moment. Embrace flexibility in your resolutions. While it’s essential to have a clear plan, be open to adjusting your goals as needed.

If a particular goal becomes unrealistic or loses relevance, don’t be afraid to modify it or replace it with something more fitting for your current situation.

6. Celebrate Milestones

Don’t wait until the end of the year to celebrate your achievements. Set milestones along the way and reward yourself when you reach them. Treat yourself to something you enjoy or indulge in a small celebration. These mini-rewards will keep your motivation high and give you something to look forward to throughout the year.
